2024 INNAUGURAL YEAR OF GREAT AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

GAS Award Finalists: Hope Choi, Bomin Kim, Sarah Kim, Alisa Lee, Justin Lee The Great American Scholarship Foundation (GASF) is grateful for the overwhelming number of applicants who participated during this inaugural year of our scholarship program. One of the factors that separates the GASF from other scholarship programs is the emphasis on recognizing student hours devoted to community volunteerism. The GASF is pleased to share the clear evidence of Korean American students who not only excel in academia but who are making a personal difference in communities across the Southeastern United States. The scholarship selection committee had a difficult time identifying the finalists from such a competitive roster of 39 student applicants. GASF is honored to announce the selection of five college-bound, high school senior students who will each be receiving a GASF scholarship of $10,000 to help support their freshman year of studies during the 2024-25 academic year. We congratulate all five winners who accomplished getting to this point as strong students and active community volunteers. Each of the winners were notified this morning and were requested to provide the following required documents to complete the pending application process. Proof of US citizenship, verification of residency in the Southeastern United States, current school transcript with GPA, and family’s 2022 tax return. The First GASF Award Ceremony will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 5 pm at the Cherokee Town & Country Club located at 155 West Paces Ferry Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. All recipients are required to attend. GASF invites parents to join in this celebration of such great accomplishment. All GASF board/selection committee members and dignitaries who helped to make the GASF a reality will be invited as well. We thank all applicants for taking the time to apply, for the excellent work in the classroom, and for the faithful contribution to the greater community. These students, regardless of winning the scholarship, have made the Americans of Korean ancestry very proud. Congratulations! Park Founder/Chairman of the Board Great American Scholarship Foundation www.GreatAmericanScholarship.org  위대한 미국 영구 장학금 제1회 ( 2024년) 장학생 발표 최종 선정된 장학생 명단: Hope Choi, Bomin Kim, Sarah Kim, Alisa Lee, Justin Lee 미국 동남부 지역 출신으로 대학에 진학하는 우수한 한인 학생들에게 지역사회에의 봉사를 고취하려고 2022년 12월에 설립된 위대한 영구 장학재단 (GASF) 이 제1회 장학생으로 뽑힌 5명을 발표 합니다. 우선, 새로 창설된 우리 GASF는 많은 숫자의 신청서를 기대하지 않았으나, 예상외로 39명의 장학금 신청서를 접수하여서 매우 기쁩니다. GASF은 다른 장학금 들과 달리 미국사회에 자원 봉사를 강조하며, 비한인사회에 봉사한 기록에 높은 점수를 배정합니다. 이는, 한인사회의 장기적 발전에 저해가 되는 한인사회와 비한인사회 사이에 형성된 보이지 않는 벽을 없애려는 의도가 포함되어 있습니다. 이번 기회를 통해서, 한인 계 학생들이 학업뿐 아니라 미국 동남부 각 지역사회에서 많은 자원 봉사활동도 열심히 하고 있는 증거를 갖게 돼서 우리는 더욱 기쁩니다. 우리는, 지역사회에서 열심히 자원봉사를 해낸 우리 학생들에게 진정한 축하와 감사를 보냅니다. 그러나, 39명의 기량이 있는 신청자들 중에서 제한된 장학기금액 관계로 안타깝지만 최종 5명만 선정하게 되었습니다. 한편, 아쉽게도 장학금 신청서 일부가 마감이 지난 이후에 도착한 관계로 처음부터 배제 되어서 빛을 볼수가 없었습니다. 우리 위대한 미국 영구 장학재단은, 장학생에 선정 된 것과 관계 없이 이번 장학금 행사에 참여해준 모든 학생들과 부모님들과 부양자님들께 깊은 감사를 드립니다. 선정된 장학생들은, 미국 시민권 확인, 미국 동남부 지역 거주 확인, 학교 성적표 등, 필수 서류들을 2024년 3월 5일까지 제출하여 조건들을 채우게 됩니다. GASF는 장학생들이 진학하는 대학으로2024-2025년도 등록비용으로 개인당 $10,000 씩을 국세청이 정한 절차를 거쳐서 송금합니다. 2024년 3월 29일에는 애틀랜타 Cherokee Town Club에서 제1회 장학금 수여식이 거행되며, 장학생과 부모 그리고 장학재단 이사들이 참석하여 장학생들이 이룬 성취를 축하하게 됩니다.
